Support when you need it.
One of the biggest barriers to therapy is not reluctance to the healing process, but instead, the difficulty of time and transportation. I offer evening and weekend appointments to meet virtually on your schedule.
My focus on trauma and its impact on daily life is different from the “what is happening today” approach of many therapists. I want to help you discover and heal the impact, so that you can go forward and enjoy your life. While it can be scary to bring up traumatic memories from the past, you will be supported in the process.
I help clients struggling with:

Sometimes depression or anxiety go hand in hand with trauma. Sometimes, they stand alone. Either way, they feel like you have lost control of things. Therapy helps in three ways. First, it helps you to identify things that happen in your life that make you react negatively. Second, it helps you to challenge those thoughts and feelings. Finally, it helps you to focus on solutions for everyday issues that can make you feel stuck and overwhelmed. Using personalized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, you can begin to regain and maintain a say in your own life story.

Trauma comes in many forms and can impact your life in ways you may not realize. Trauma can be caused by a single event or be more complex. Most types of trauma respond well to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR can be done effectively through telehealth by using evidence-based formats. Traumatic diagnoses don’t have to be a lifetime sentence, as treatment can make all the difference in symptom reduction or elimination.

Often, we think of grief as the sense of loss when a loved one dies. Grief can occur at other times in life; the loss of a career, the loss of an ability due to illness or injury, divorce, or even a collective grief when something traumatic has happened in your community. Almost all major life transitions have a looking forward and a looking back part. Looking back can feel like a loss, and a person can become bereaved. Therapy can provide a non-judgmental space to express your feelings of loss and confusion about your future. This type of therapy is very individualized, as every person expresses bereavement in their own way. This EMDR based treatment is for anyone who has that overwhelming sense of loss that they want to express.

Transitions in our identities can occur throughout our lives, whether they be gender related, age related, parenthood related, or other reasons. Navigating transitional periods in life can be challenging and can feel lonely. You may wonder if anyone sees you for who you are. Therapy can help to affirm and embrace your identity. As with any therapy at Cherry Tree, identity affirmation services are strictly confidential. Affirmation services are for anyone who is moving into or through a transitional period in their life, including perimenopause, menopause, gender transitions, and new parenting roles. Treatment methods for this service include Solution Focused therapy, in which goals and solutions are the focus of the treatment. You choose the goals and solutions. The therapist helps you to identify how to achieve those goals and solutions.

Behaviors related to sexuality are difficult for many folks to address in a positive manner. Caregivers may wonder if there is an underlying problem or if their child’s behavior is developmentally appropriate. Caregivers and children in their lives may feel like the behavior should be kept secret and are reluctant to navigate the problematic possibility. Therapy can help by determining what is developmental and what is problematic. It can help release the stigma so that change in behavior can happen. Treatment methods include Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Problematic Sexual Behavior and EMDR for impulse control. These therapies can help families who have experienced instances of sexual behavior by children.
Team-Related Trauma, Stress, and Burnout
Vicarious trauma is the absorption of the trauma we hear as professionals in the fields of human services, law enforcement, social work, and other direct provider occupations. It feels like the stress of the job is never-ending, and your own well-being gets pushed to the background, until you forget who you are and why you serve in the capacity you do.
Sometimes the entire team is affected by organizational trauma. High turnover rates, rapid transitions, and mission drift can all lead an entire organization to a state of burnout. Team therapy can help by processing the vicarious and organizational trauma and then taking steps to provide support to refocus on the mission of the team. I can assist with these issues through group EMDR and trauma-focused Restorative yoga. My fee for this service is a flat rate of $150 per hour, with 90 minutes being the usual length of time for the session.
Somatic Yoga and Meditation
In collaboration with local studios, Restorative Yoga and Meditation classes will be featured as available. Check back for dates and times. You can also set up a Restorative Yoga session for a group in your own space. Rate is a flat $150 per hour, with 60 minutes being the usual length of the session.
Restorative Yoga and Meditation helps with decompressing from traumatic events or simply destressing from everyday burdens. It does not require any special skills on the part of the participant. You do not have to have ever done any type of yoga previously. This is a way for anyone to release body tension and the trauma held in the body.
